Travels With George

Viking,

In the late 1800s, George Washington undertook a journey across the original thirteen states, which were at the time still a loose and quarrelsome confederation of thirteen ex-colonies. During his travels, Washington took on the task of instilling a sense of nationhood to this young and still largely experimental “country”. Centuries later, historian Nathaniel Philbrick retraces Washington’s journey to explore what the United States looked like at the very beginning of its history, and how that has evolved 230 years later.
